Role in research
Since its foundation in 2002 Mokk has put special emphasis on its activities research and development. Mokk as a result of the dual/bidirectional preparedness and interest of its staff takes part in projects that approach network communication and the world of new media, on the one hand from social sciences, on the other from technology and informatics. Within the institute’s research and development profile speech technology plays a significant/accentuated role. The dual competence of the institute corresponds to the needs of the speech technology as it requires both engineering, mathematical, informatics just as well as linguistic, semantic and philosophical expertise. Since language technology is such a R and D area that constantly requires local linguistic and cultural expertise. (not only but also)
Role in education
The sociology and communication department of BME provides education of sociology related subjects for all the departments of the university at BA and BS level by offering a wide variety of optional subjects at every level. It is also responsible for the BA level ommunication and media education at the Eonomic and Social science Department of BME. The staff of the institute provides courses within the following fields: new media, network communication, media science, popular culture, network economics, internet and informatics. Since the MOKK was founded by BME and Hungarian Telecom the institute has taken part in the training of the staff of the telecommunication company in the field of new media from the beginning.
Profit oriented activities
While MOKK functions as an educational institution – thus its basic function is not dictated by the market – its close connection to Hungarian Telecom provides it with up-to-date information about the demands of the market. The secondary market competition to win national and international research and development projects compel the researchers of MOKK to act upon the real market demands.
